The 1968 Shelby GT500KR
By Austin Craig
Shelby’s 1968 “King of the Road” G.T.500KR represented the apogee of horsepower and cool in a Ford platform as the first Muscle Car era came to a close. To celebrate that international icon of performance, the 1968 Shelby Continuation G.T.500KR is reborn. Available in both fastback coupe and convertible body styles – these KR’s pack the same big-block punch – but now from a 427cubic inch Shelby engine – as the originals.
Each is authentic and carries a genuine Shelby anniversary badge. Limited to 25 coupes and 25 convertibles – these continuations will be outfitted like their 1968 counterparts and listed in the Shelby Registry. For the first time in 50 years, a genuine 1968 “King of the Road” is available through Shelby American.
